Does melatonin interact with estrogen, progesterone or testosterone?Updated a day ago

Estrogen increases melatonin blood levels.  Using melatonin with oral or transdermal estrogen can therefore increase exposure and impact.  Transdermal estrogen has a milder interaction with melatonin levels compared to oral estrogen because it bypasses first-pass liver metabolism.  Those taking estrogen may need to monitor how they feel when adding melatonin to their nightly routine.

Progesterone is sleep-promoting, with no significant metabolic interaction with melatonin. As progesterone helps with sleep, many people may require less melatonin when taking it.

Testosterone is compatible with melatonin at standard doses (0.3-3mg).

Everyone responds to melatonin differently. Starting with a half-dose can help ascertain next-day feel/grogginess.  If you start with a whole serving and experience next-day grogginess, reducing to a half-serving may help alleviate the issue.  

Product Directions:

Adults take 2 capsules 1-2 hours before bedtime, at roughly the same time each night. New to melatonin or sensitive? Start with ½ serving for 3–4 nights, then increase to 1 serving as needed. If you experience next-day grogginess, consider taking it earlier or reducing the serving to ½. Do not exceed suggested use.
