How do I choose the right weighted vest?Updated 7 hours ago

See the chart below for a quick reference.  Use the guidance below the chart for additional help.

If you find yourself between two options:

💛 Choose the lighter one. Consistency beats intensity every time.

Guidance

A common starting point is ~5–10% of body weight, or what your practitioner recommends. Choose a vest that fits snug and centered without restricting breathing.

Choosing your vest weight (8 lb / 12 lb / 16 lb)
Use the 5–10% guideline, your comfort level, and your routine below to choose the best weight.

If you’re deciding between two weights, choose the lighter one; consistency beats intensity.

8 lb

  • Best for first-time users, joint-sensitive/returning to fitness, and light daily wear

  • Ideal for longer walks, posture/core engagement, and running/high-impact cardio (start low)

12 lb

  • Best all-around option for regular walkers and most people wanting a moderate challenge

  • Great for rucking/hiking/incline as a starting weight for active beginners

  • Ideal for strength circuits for most users

16 lb

  • Best for experienced users with a strong fitness base

  • Ideal for hills/stairs, rucking-style intensity, hiking, and short, intense workouts

  • For long distances, lighter often wins
